To help you prepare for your upcoming session, we've put together a guide on what to wear and bring for your session! Feel free to reach out with any questions!
WHAT TO WEAR:
Bring several outfit choices, even if we do not shoot them all, it's great to have options. Having some casual to more formal looks will help give your session some variety. A casual look is usually great for sharing with friends and family, while formal look is wonderful for displaying in a living room. Soft and natural outfits would pair great in a nursery!
1. MAXI DRESS
Dresses look great for maternity. Look for fitted stretchy dresses, empire waist or dresses that have movement in them.
2. SKIRTS OR SHORT DRESSES
A more causal look is to pair a short skirt with a cute top, or wear a short dress to showcase some boots or sandals. Feel free to bring heels to go with this look, but don't worry, you don't even have to walk in heels which can get trickier as you get closer to your due date.
3. JEANS & A CUTE TOP OR SWEATER
Another versatile look for any expecting mom! A great option if we venture outside the studio with the Third Ward Neighborhood as a backdrop. Scarves really add a touch of interest to a more casual outfit. A jacket can also add variety and a modern touch.
4. CREATING A DRESS OUT OF FABRIC
We have a blue jersey material that can be made into a dress using a strapless bra and/or strapless tank top. We clip the fabric in the back of you. It's a blue fabric, but can be changed to the color you prefer for any chosen images. The sky is the limit on color options!
Think about choosing options that highlight your bump, and coordinate with where these images will be displayed!
5. OUTFITS FOR GUYS & FAMILY MEMBERS
Most of the dads we work wear a suit or jeans with a button down. Siblings should coordinate with the parents for a cohesive look. Please make sure your outfits are ironed/steamed. We have a steamer available for touch ups.
WHAT ARE GOOD COLORS?
Choose a color palette that complements each other.
Consider your and your partners skin tones when choosing your outfits. Everyone really seem to look great in jewel tones.
Neutral tones, pastels, or earthy colors often work well.
You really cant ever go wrong with choosing 2-3 colors. Navy, burgundy and cream. Royal blue & mustard yellow pair well. Gray, white and yellow or green are common nursery colors.
WHAT TO BRING:
1. SHOES!
Don't forget to bring shoes! Here's the fun part, you actually do not have to walk in them. In the studio, we can slide them on right before your shoot, and if we're outside, you can wear more comfortable shoes while we're walking and switch them as we start photographing.
2. PROPS
Feel free to bring any props that hold special significance or add a personal touch to your photos. These could include items such as baby shoes, booties, hats or hair bows, crowns, rattle, onesies, stuffed animals etc.
3. ACCESSORIES
Meaningful accessories that honor family or friends such as lockets or dog tags, make great additions to detail photos. Scarves, hats, and jewelry can really add style to an outfit.
4. SNACKS
We serve chilled and room temperature water at our studio and a fruit and cookie or cracker platter on hand. If you have a preferred snack or food allergies, please let us know! You're more than welcome to bring snacks from home as well. Keep in mind that chocolate or broccoli usually doesn't go great with photos as they can hinder your smile from looking perfect.
